Project-based
Learning 2024 Championship

National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan

I had the opportunity to represent University of Cincinnati at the 2024 Project-Based Learning (PBL) Championship in Taiwan, where students from various countries formed teams to compete in a robotics challenge. Our task was to design an Arduino robot capable of sorting white blocks and collecting red and green blocks.

Despite our diverse backgrounds, my team quickly established a strong bond. With three Japanese teammates facing language barriers, we relied on one bilingual member to bridge communication gaps. This experience highlighted the importance of patience, adaptability, and creating a supportive environment for all voices to be heard.

During the competition, we faced technical challenges and moments of conflict. By holding an open team discussion centered on honesty and constructive feedback, we improved collaboration and built trust. These efforts culminated in us receiving the "Best Teamwork" award, recognizing our effective cross-cultural cooperation.

This experience reshaped my understanding of a Global Citizen Scholar. It taught me that being globally minded means embracing diversity, fostering mutual respect, and ensuring inclusive teamwork. Beyond technical skills, it reinforced that true global citizenship requires active listening, empathy, and a shared commitment to collective success.
